The Notre Dame men’s basketball staff spent much of Wednesday working the phones. June 15 was the first day college coaches could directly contact class of 2024 recruits.

It’s a popular day for sending out offers. Sure enough, the Irish dished out two of them.

Notre Dame offered 2024 Montverde (Fla.) Academy four-star wing Liam McNeeley and Centerville (Ohio) guard Jonathan Powell Wednesday, adding to their 2024 recruiting board. McNeeley is the No. 14 player and No. 6 small forward in the 2024 On3 Consensus. He’s a native of Richardson, Texas. Powell is currently unranked.

McNeeley (6-8, 190 pounds) had double-digit schools contact him Wednesday. His offer list has surpassed 10 too, with Notre Dame and Alabama joining it Wednesday. In addition to those two, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, Stanford, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M have offered. He plays AAU for Drive Nation on the Nike EYBL circuit.

Powell added Notre Dame and Ohio to his offer list on Wednesday. Cincinnati, Dayton, Illinois, Indiana, Texas A&M and Xavier offered earlier in the spring. He was reportedly the Buckeyes’ first in-state offer in the 2024 cycle.

A 45-point game April 11 at an AAU tournament with college coaches watching in the stands jump-started the 6-6, 180-pound Powell’s recruitment. He had no offers prior to that day. Illinois changed that immediately after watching. He now has eight. He plays AAU for adidas-sponsored outfit Wildcat Select.

“[Powell] has a good frame and played comfortably on the ball in the half-court,” On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote in April. “His ability to get to his spots off the bounce and his confidence made the 45 points look effortless.”

The offers to Powell and McNeeley were Notre Dame’s fourth and fifth to uncommitted 2024 recruits. The Irish offered Chicago St. Rita four-star forward James Brown and Baltimore Mount Saint Joseph four-star forward Bryson Tucker in the fall. Milwaukee Wisconsin Lutheran guard Kon Knueppel added a Notre Dame offer this spring. Brown is the No. 20 player in the On3 Consensus, while Tucker is ranked No. 4.

Notre Dame also offered four-star forward Morez Johnson – Brown’s St. Rita teammate – last fall, but he committed to Illinois.
