The ACC/Big Ten Challenge returns to Purcell Pavilion this season. Notre Dame will host Michigan State in the annual event Nov. 30, the conferences announced Friday morning.

The game will be their third meeting in the challenge since 2014. They last played in the 2020-21 season opener, an 80-70 Michigan State home win. That game was not part of the challenge, though. Their last matchup in it was Nov. 30, 2017 in East Lansing, Mich. in a battle of AP top-five teams. The Spartans won 81-63. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 60-37.

Each team reached the 2022 NCAA tournament and won a game. Michigan State was a No. 7 seed and defeated No. 10 Davidson before losing to No. 2 seed Duke in the round of 32. The Spartans went 23-13 and 11-9 in the Big Ten. Notre Dame (24-11, 15-5 ACC) was a No. 11 seed and the final at-large team selected to the field. The Irish beat No. 11 Rutgers in the First Four and No. 6 Alabama in the first round. They lost to No. 3 Texas Tech in the second round.

Notre Dame is 4-5 in the ACC/Big Ten challenge since joining the ACC before the 2013-14 season. The Irish have lost three straight games in the challenge, most recently an 82-72 defeat at Illinois last year. Their last win was a 2018 home victory over the Illini.

Michigan State is the seventh known Notre Dame non-conference opponent for 2022-23. The Irish will also host Marquette to begin a home-and-home series Dec. 11. They play St. Bonaventure Nov. 25 at UBS Arena in Belmont Park, N.Y. That game is part of the Gotham Classic. So is a home game against Bowling Green that’s set for Nov. 22, according to the contract obtained in an open records request.

Notre Dame will also reportedly host Radford Nov. 10 and Youngstown State on Nov. 13.

Notre Dame will not play the final game of its three-year series against Kentucky this season. The Irish and Wildcats played each of the past two seasons, 2020 in Lexington, Ky. and 2021 in South Bend. The third meeting will be at a to-be-determined neutral site and will reportedly be pushed back to 2023-24.

The Crossroads Classic is off the schedule too. The annual doubleheader in Indianapolis featuring Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue and Butler ended after 11 seasons.
