Four-star forward Carey Booth opted to play for Micah Shrewsberry before when he signed with Penn State last fall. Shrewsberry, now the head coach at Notre Dame, is hoping Booth chooses to follow him again. He will get Booth on campus to make his pitch.

Booth will visit Notre Dame April 26, he told Pro Insight Saturday at the Nike Hoop Summit. It’s the only visit he has set since reopening his recruitment after Shrewsberry left Penn State for Notre Dame in late March.

“A couple other schools reached out, but I’ll see where it goes with them,” Booth said.

The 6-foot-10, 195-pound Booth is the No. 74 player and No. 14 power forward in the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking. He’s the No. 70 overall player in the On3 Top 150. He played his senior season at Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy following three seasons at Cherry Creek (Colo.) High School. He’s the son of Denver Nuggets president of basketball operations and 11-year NBA veteran Calvin Booth.

Penn State and Shrewsberry originally landed Booth in September 2022, beating out more than 20 other teams for him. His other finalists were Ohio State, Stanford, Texas and Vanderbilt. He’s a Nittany Lions legacy; Calvin, before his NBA career, played at Penn State from 1995-99 and remains the school’s leader in career blocked shots.

Penn State’s other two 2023 signees were also released from their letters of intent after Shrewsberry left. One of them is his oldest son, three-star guard Braeden Shrewsberry. The elder Shrewsberry said at his introductory press conference that Braeden would play at Notre Dame. Three-star Zionsville (Ind.) guard Logan Imes was the third, and Shrewsberry is pursuing him as well. Imes and Braeden Shrewsberry are the Nos. 197 and 203 players in the On3 Industry Ranking, respectively.

Notre Dame had one signee stick to his letter of intent through the coaching change from Mike Brey to Shrewsberry: Mishawaka (Ind). Penn three-star guard Markus Burton, the No. 153 prospect in the class. Two other guards – Bixby (Okla.) four-star Parker Friedrichsen and Studio City (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake three-star Brady Dunlap – asked for and were granted their releases shortly after Notre Dame announced in January that this season would be Brey’s last.

As it stands, Notre Dame has four returning scholarship players and Burton on its 2022-23 roster.
