Cole Kmet’s dry spell is over. The former Notre Dame and current Chicago Bears tight end caught his first touchdown since the 2020 season Sunday on a 10-yard pass during a 49-29 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

He hadn’t scored since Dec. 6, 2020. That was 28 games ago — 29 if you include a playoff game in January 2021. The drought lasted nearly as long as his 35-game Notre Dame career. All told, he caught 94 passes in a row without reaching the end zone.

Kmet’s touchdown pass from quarterback Justin Fields brought the Bears within two scores with 13:40 to go. He caught it in the corner of the end zone to make the score 42-29, but the ensuing two-point attempt failed.

“Play action, he bluffs the corner[back] a little bit and runs to the corner,” Fields said. “The corner slipped. Cole executed that play well.”

Kmet is one of more than 40 former Notre Dame players who are on an NFL roster or practice squad. Here’s a look at how each fared in Week 8.
