As expected, Notre Dame running back C’Bo Flemister has entered the transfer portal after four years with the team, per On3 sources.

Head coach Marcus Freeman addressed Flemister’s status with the team — or lack thereof — following the first spring practice back on March 17. Freeman said he was no longer with the team and did not have a future playing in South Bend either.

Flemister’s Notre Dame career never quite took off. He played four snaps across two games as a true freshman in 2018. His sophomore and junior years were his most impactful. The 5-11, 200-pound back out of Williamson, Ga. rushed 106 times for 461 yards and 10 touchdowns during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He had three receptions for 39 yards but was largely absent in the pass game.

The running back was on the field for just seven total offensive snaps in 2021. He ran three times for 10 yards, and his senior season got off to a poor start long before the Irish ever stepped foot on the field at Florida State for the season opener Sept. 5.

Flemister was charged with leaving the scene of a car accident in April 2021. Police arrived at the scene near South Bend Avenue and Corby Boulevard and found Flemister’s car with the airbags deployed but nobody around. He originally said the car was taken from the Eddy Street Commons area across from Notre Dame’s campus before confessing he was the driver. The Class B misdemeanor carried a penalty of up to a year in prison.

According to The South Bend Tribune, Flemister agreed to a pretrial diversion to have the charges dismissed. Flemister had to complete a substance abuse evaluation, attend a victim impact panel, pay $334 in court fees and perform 25 hours of community service.

Flemister was a consensus three-star recruit ranked No. 1180 nationally in the 2018 class. His Power Five offers included Notre Dame, Tennessee and Georgia Tech.

The entry into the portal has little impact on the Irish running back room for 2022 given Flemister’s lack of production last season and the fact that he was not with the team this spring. Flemister often played the role of a goal-line back for the Irish, and it has become apparent that rising sophomore Audric Estime will likely take over that job this season.
