Notre Dame graduate student guard Dara Mabrey suffered what seems to be a severe knee injury Sunday in the Fighting Irish’s win over Virginia. Head coach Niele Ivey said Mabrey would receive further examination early this week before an announcement would be made on her status moving forward.

Mabrey went up for a transition layup in the second minute of Sunday’s game. She received a bump foul from a Virginia defender, but it appeared her knee gave out on its own. She crashed to the court and stayed down in clear, agonizing pain for a few minutes. She left the game and returned to the bench with a heavy brace and crutches.

Ivey said there is not a timeline to determine Mabrey’s future. The No. 7 Irish (16-2, 7-1 ACC) stay at home to host Florida State (18-4, 7-2) Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The Seminoles have won three of their last four, including an 82-75 victory over then-No. 11 NC State on Jan. 12.
