The 2022-23 Notre Dame women’s basketball roster has a new name etched on it. Lauren Zwetzig has officially been added this week.

Zwetzig has a unique story. She transferred from Haverford College with the intent to end her playing career. She became a manager for head coach Niele Ivey‘s team to stay close to the game. She worked her way into a role as a practice player. Now, she has walked on and earned a roster spot.

Zwetzig was a two-time first-team All-Colorado selection as a team captain at Fossil Ridge High School. The Sabercats had a 42-10 record in her junior and senior seasons while she started at point guard. She led the team in shooting percentage (44%), free throw percentage (82%) and three-point percentage (40%) in her senior year.

Zwetzig is the third walk-on on the Irish’s roster. She joins juniors Trinity Cha and Sarah Cernugel, who were walk-ons on last year’s roster as well. The Irish have nine scholarship players in addition to the three walk-ons to bring the team’s total to 12 players. Last year, Ivey worked with 10 scholarship players and two walk-ons.

The entire roster can be found here.

Quote of the day

“When I started this job, and I don’t say this to take any credit for it, all the commentary was, ‘Were we relevant anymore?’ This year, no one is asking that question. I think all of this dynamic has just re-enforced that a lot of the decisions made over the years have placed Notre Dame in a very good position.”
