Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. This week’s guest is 2023 linebacker Arvell Reese.

The country’s No. 15-ranked linebacker was falling through the cracks.

Arvell Reese had shown flashes of his elite athleticism during his first three years of high school and everyone saw that. Reese, playing at Euclid (Ohio) High School, was not finding the recruiting radar though. At least not in the way that a young athlete with his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame and explosive traits normally does.

This past offseason, Arvell Reese made a decision. It was time to get everything back on track. The first part of that decision was a return to Glenville (Cleveland) High School, the school he had always played football for as a youngster. That brought him back under the umbrella of legendary prep coach Ted Ginn Sr. Ginn has helped put the rest back on track.

“I’ve got to do this for my mom,” Reese said of the changes he needed to make. “She’s been through a lot and changing her life would mean everything to me.

“I’m getting great grades now and I’m definitely going to get caught up.”

The increased focused on academics are one part of the puzzle. Having the expertise and guidance of Ginn is another for Reese, who has become a top priority for Ohio State after earning a surprise offer in March.

What has life been life for Arvell Reese since that offer came? How does new linebackers coach Jim Knowles see him fitting into the Buckeyes defense? How much does Reese give credit to Ginn Sr for his recent rash of recruiting success?

The four-star linebacker prospect from Glenville High School l talks about those things and more in the latest edition of Birminology from Lettermen Row.
