Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today we’re talking with four-star 2023 cornerback Christian Gray.

COLUMBUS — College football is changing and no one is having a harder time keeping up than recruits around the country.

Over the last few weeks, Christian Gray has seen his entire recruiting plan get turned upside down. Coaches at a number of the schools he’s considered the most — including Ohio State, Notre Dame and Oklahoma — have left for other jobs. Kerry Coombs led the Buckeyes recruiting efforts for the No. 24-ranked cornerback, but he’s now at Cincinnati.

And to this point, Gray is still waiting to hear from either Tim Walton or Perry Eliano, the new coaches in the Ohio State secondary. Ryan Day has stayed in contact with Christian Gray, but his recruitment feels uneasy. After earning an offer from Coombs last summer, Gray had begun to see himself fitting in with the Buckeyes.

“Their brotherhood shows in actions,” The DeSmet (St. Louis) High School product said. “They don’t turn on each other or against each other. They don’t do nothing negative. All they do is hype each other up, stay positive and get through the game to try to get the win.”

Right now, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback is looking for a win of his own. He’d like to be committed in the near future but won’t rush things. Especially now that he’s seen the way college football can be turned on its head so quickly.

How much has Christian Gray talked to Ohio State cornerbacks about college football? Does the addition of his former coach at LSU make the Tigers the team to beat in his recruitment? How long will he wait to hear from the new coaches in Columbus before moving on from the Buckeyes?

The St. Louis standout talks about those things and more in the latest edition of Birminology from Lettermen Row.
