Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Our latest guest is long-time Buckeyes commitment Jaylen Johnson, who has emerged as an unsung leader in the Buckeyes 2021 recruiting class.

The Buckeyes Bash is coming, and Jaylen Johnson can’t wait to get himself back to Ohio State.

Though he is one of the lowest-ranked prospects in the Buckeyes 2021 class, Johnson has proven his worth repeatedly as one of the primary peer-to-peer recruiters for Ohio State. Johnson has quietly been helping lead the way in building a number of key relationships — most notably with Jordan Hancock, who flipped to the Buckeyes after committing to Clemson initially.

Jaylen Johnson knew that he wanted to play for Ohio State and didn’t let the chance pass him by when he was offered following a June camp last year. He’s now selling that same passion as an advocate for Ryan Day’s program.

This weekend in Columbus is a chance for Johnson to do that, and if it seems like it’s been awhile since anyone’s had that chance, it’s because it has been awhile since anyone has had that chance.

Why does Jaylen Johnson think the Buckeyes Bash is a big deal? How does he see the time with his peers going? What has playing football in the Covid-19 era been like for him and his Cincinnati La Salle teammates? Johnson talks about those things and a lot more in the latest edition of Birminology from Lettermen Row.
