Ohio State adds Emerald Coast Classic to future hoops schedule

Ohio State is already beefing up a future nonconference hoops slate.

According to Fanduel, the Buckeyes hoops program will participate in the 2023 Emerald Coast Classic next November, joining Alabama and Oregon. The fourth program hasn’t been named yet, but it figures to be another college basketball heavyweight to pair with the other three programs.

This announcement comes just days after Ohio State finalized its 2022-23 nonconference hoops schedule, which will feature a trip to the Maui Invitational, a road matchup at Duke and a neutral-site date with North Carolina as part of the CBS Sports Classic.

As for future schedules, though, the Buckeyes are already working to secure matchups with elite opponents.

Buckeyes land fast-rising offensive tackle

The three-star Brunswick School (Greenwich, Connecticut) chose the Buckeyes on Friday, picking them over Penn State, Texas A&M, Michigan, Notre Dame and others. He is the first true offensive tackle in the recruiting class, and he gives Justin Frye a major win in his first cycle as Ohio State offensive line coach.

Walker is the fourth offensive lineman in the class, joining four-star interior linemen Josh Padilla and Austin Siereveld, as well as top-100 four-star Luke Montgomery, who Ohio State is starting to believe will be a tackle for the Buckeyes.

His pledge gives the Buckeyes 17 in their 2023 recruiting class, filling up the positional needs quickly. Ohio State has landed seven commitments since the beginning of June to rise near the top of the team recruiting rankings, including the On3 Consensus No. 2 class in America. The Buckeyes are just a few points behind Notre Dame in the battle for the top class.

That top-two class now includes a true tackle prospect. At 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds, Miles Walker is the latest Buckeyes commit. And he gives Justin Frye a major win on the trail.

New Ohio State recruiting podcast

A multitude of the Buckeyes top prospects have announcements planned for their commitments in the coming weeks. Leading it off is four-star DeMatha Catholic (Fort Washington, Maryland) defensive lineman Jason Moore, who will decide Sunday.

Not only will Ohio State find out about Moore, but it’ll hear about four-star Jesuit (Tampa, Florida) linebacker Troy Bowles on July 16.

Lettermen Row staffers Spencer Holbrook, Andrew Ellis and Matt Parker broke down the potential commits heading Ohio State’s way and more on the latest episode of the Lettermen Row Recruiting Podcast.

The trio broke down potential commitments headed the Buckeyes way, as well as where five-star Mill Creek (Hoschton, Georgia) safety Caleb Downs stands with Ohio State. Earlier in the week, On3’s Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons reported that it’s a three-way race between Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama for Downs. The Lettermen Row crew spoke about the Simmons report and what it would mean for the Buckeyes to land the No. 1 safety in the country.
