New faces on display as Buckeyes wrap up spring football

COLUMBUS — A number of names and faces have changed, but when Ohio State football is putting in work on the turf at Ohio Stadium, it always means something.

It’s a bit harder to know exactly what it means when it’s a spring football game for the Buckeyes. One thing that is clear how much it meant to Ohio State and the 20,000 or so fans in attendance to be back in the Horseshoe.

“The most exciting part was getting back in the stadium and seeing the Best Damn Band In The Land,” Ryan Day said after the scrimmage. “Having some fans around, it felt almost normal out there today. Just want to thank the band for being out there, it made me feel like we were back in the Shoe again with a full crowd.

“I know usually we’re used to 85,000 for a spring game but even 20 was nice. I know there was a huge demand with the students. I really appreciate the students coming out and doing their part even though it wasn’t as many out there as they would have liked.”

Those in attendance were treated to some big plays by a number of new faces, including true freshmen like Kyle McCord, Treveyon Henderson, Marvin Harrison, Emeka Egbuka and Jack Sawyer, who was credited with four sacks on the day. Heading into the offseason, questions abound about the Ohio State defense but there’s no denying this team’s tremendous offensive potential.
