COLUMBUS — Ohio State is opening Big Ten play without one of its key veteran defenders.

The Buckeyes program released the availability report on Saturday afternoon, and cornerback Cameron Brown won’t be able to suit up for the Ohio State in the primetime showdown against Wisconsin.

Ohio State will also be without star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has only played in two games — sparingly in both — this season.

For Brown and the defense, his absence leaves the Buckeyes with just four healthy scholarship cornerbacks. Jordan Hancock, a key backup cornerback, is also still working through an injury and won’t be able to play.

That leaves sophomore cornerbacks Denzel Burke and JK Johnson as the presumed starters, while freshmen Jyaire Brown and Ryan Turner are the other two who are healthy.

The full availability report from the program is now confirmed, making note that Ohio State doesn’t detail injury or disciplinary matters.
