COLUMBUS — Cormontae Hamilton was never able to carve out a role for Ohio State.

He won’t have any more chances to do so, either. Hamilton is no longer with the Buckeyes program.

Hamilton is not listed on the team roster on the Buckeyes official website, and a source confirmed to Lettermen Row that he won’t be with the Ohio State program moving forward.

Hamilton arrived at Ohio State in the class of 2019 as a tight end prospect. The three-star player from Memphis Whitehaven (Tenn.) High School flipped sides of the ball just one season into his Buckeyes career and went over to the defensive line. He redshirted during his first season, and he appeared in five games for the Buckeyes in 2020 and eight last year. He registered six tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks in 13 career games played.

Hamilton’s departure is part of the fluid roster situation for the Buckeyes, who are currently above the scholarship limit. But they don’t expect that to be an issue with roster attrition in the coming months leading up to the season.

“I mean, with everything going on, it’s kind of a floating number,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “It’s that way year in and year out, but I’d say now more than ever just because of everything that can go on with the transfer portal. We want to make sure that we get to 85, and you kind of have to forecast that out. It puts us in a tough spot because you don’t want to be left short.

“We’ll just keep monitoring it and work through the spring.”

Hamilton tried his hand on offense and defense for the Buckeyes during his career, but he was never able to establish a role at tight end or along the defensive line.

But his time with the Ohio State football program is now over. Cormontae Hamilton won’t be with the Buckeyes moving forward.
