Buckeyes defensive line target set to announce commitment

Ohio State already hosted four-star defensive tackle Darron Reed for an official visit. The Buckeyes have done what they can to recruit him.

Now, the decision is his to make. And he’ll decide between Ohio State, LSU and other top programs Monday at 2 p.m.

The On3 RPM currently gives LSU a 88.9-percent chance to land the four-star Carver (Columbus, Georgia) High School product, and the recent buzz has been pointing to a Tigers win in his recruitment. But with Larry Johnson, the Buckeyes always have a chance. They certainly do on July 4 this year, as Reed is set to make a decision.

ICYMI: Jermaine Mathews commits to Ohio State

Ohio State added another defensive back this week on Friday: Jermaine Mathews committed to the Buckeyes.

Mathews, a four-star cornerback from Winton Woods (Cincinnati) and the No. 32 cornerback in the country according to the On3 consensus rankings, picked the Buckeyes over Cincinnati, Penn State, Oklahoma, LSU, Jackson State and others.

Jermaine Mathews’ commitment is yet another recruiting win for Tim Walton, Perry Eliano and the Buckeyes, and it keeps them rolling with a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail, even in the early days of a recruiting dead period.

Lettermen Row is breaking down Jermaine Mathews’ choice and what it means for the Buckeyes, the Big Ten and the national recruiting scene in the Class of 2023.

ICYMI: Four-star linebacker trims list, includes Ohio State in final three

Jim Knowles and Ohio State have prioritized Tackett Curtis at linebacker for months.

He has felt the love, keeping the Buckeyes in his final three schools as he trimmed his list. Curtis kept Ohio State in his final three with USC and Wisconsin. The Many, Louisiana, native, holds offers from nearly every major program around the country.

Curtis is the country’s No. 98 player, according to the On3 consensus rankings. He’s the No. 6 linebacker in America and the No. 7 player in the state of Louisiana, but he kept LSU out of his final three.

Knowles and the Buckeyes have kept Curtis as a priority for months. Now they’re making sure to stay in the fight as Curtis’ recruitment winds down.
