Ty Hamilton becoming big factor in Buckeyes defensive line room

Ty Hamilton is just five days into his third training camp with Ohio State. The defensive tackle is emerging as a major factor in the defensive line room early in camp for the Buckeyes.

Hamilton is certainly a part of the rotation this August in practice, and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles had high praise for Hamilton after the fifth camp session of the month on Tuesday.

“He is part of that rotation,” Knowles said. “I don’t know how to describe it, except they’re all going to play. They’re all going to play a lot. It doesn’t matter whose first or second, because we just want them to keep coming at the offense in waves.

“He’s as good as any of them.”

Hamilton built toward a breakout for his first two seasons at Ohio State. Now he is ready to take full advantage of the opportunity. Hamilton is quickly becoming a factor for the Buckeyes defense.

Practice No. 5 concluded with Knowles, who is the head of the linebackers room, and select linebackers, all of whom were available following the practice. Lettermen Row staffers Spencer Holbrook and Tim May return with another post-practice and availability video breaking down what they learned.

How will the Ohio State linebackers rebound after a rough season last fall? Does Jim Knowles feel like his defense is up to speed with just three weeks until the season-opener against Notre Dame? Can the starting linebackers be back up to the past standard of previous Ohio State linebackers before them?

Knowles provided plenty of clarity on how the Buckeyes are working toward where they are used to being. Behind a new linebackers coach and defensive coordinator in Knowles, the momentum and newfound energy in the linebacker room could lead to big things for Ohio State. Knowles and the Buckeyes broke it down. And Tim and Spencer react to it all in the latest Practice Report.

New Tim May Podcast

After an offseason full of using his podcast to revisit with former players, break down and analyze Buckeyes history and talk about Name, Image and Likeness, the long-time Ohio State beat writer is back to focusing on another massive topic: Buckeye Nation and Buckeyes fans — the largest fanbase in the country.

Tim welcomes Samford professor Darin White, the Executive Director for the Center for Sports Analytics. He recently did a study to show just how big fanbases are across college football, and he found that no fanbase tops the Buckeyes, especially in the Big Ten. The reach of the Ohio State fanbase is much greater than any other fan base in the league, and the study just confirmed that.
