COLUMBUS — Jayden Fielding received looks from plenty of schools when he was at IMG Academy.

But when the Ascenders made a trip from Bradenton, Florida, to Ohio for a game against Cincinnati La Salle, an assistant coach walked up to Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline and advocated for Fielding.

That advocation worked as Jayden Fielding joined the Buckeyes 2022 class as a preferred walk-on and now is ‘officially’ part of the program after shedding his black stripe.

“I’ve always wanted to play big-time college football,” Jayden Fielding told Lettermen Row last December. “Ohio State is one of the most prestigious programs in the country. Coming from one of the most prestigious high school programs in the country, I think it would be a great fit. I’m well prepared for the opportunity.

Fielding is part of a deep specialists room that consists of Noah Ruggles, Jake Seibert, Jesse Mirco, Mason Arnold, Michael O’Shaughnessy, Max Lomonico and Bradley Robinson.

Cornerback Ryan Turner, wide receiver Kojo Antwi, wide receiver Kaleb Brown, defensive end Kenyatta Jackson, cornerback Jyaire Brown, linebacker C.J. Hicks, tailback Dallan Hayden and wide receiver Kyion Grayes were all freshmen who shed their stripe during camp. Freshman safety Sonny Styles, who reclassified from the class of 2023 into the class of 2022, shed his black stripe just before the season began.

Defensive end Caden Curry and safety Kye Stokes lost their black stripes during spring practice.

Now Jayden Fielding is the latest freshman to shed his.
