Buckeyes don't budge in latest AP Poll
COLUMBUS — Another week, another No. 2 ranking for Ohio State. The Buckeyes remained the second-ranked team in the AP Poll for the seventh straight week.
Once again, the top four held steady. Each of those teams got a scare this weekend, though. No. 1 Georgia scraped out a 16-6 win over Kentucky, Maryland made No. 2 Ohio State sweat out four quarters in College Park and both No. 3 Michigan and No. 4 TCU needed late field goals to remain undefeated.
USC cracked the top five for the first time in five years after outlasting UCLA in a shootout. Oregon creeped back into the top 10, and Tennessee dropped four spots to No. 9 after its embarrassing loss to unranked South Carolina.
Ohio State is coming off a 43-30 victory over Maryland that was closer than the score suggests. Maryland staked itself to a 13-10 halftime lead and pulled within a field goal of the Buckeyes in the fourth quarter.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day had to lean on true freshman running back Dallan Hayden — who grabbed headlines with 143 second-half rushing yards — late to put away the persistent Terrapins. Buckeyes defensive end Zach Harrison sealed the victory with back-to-back sacks in the final minute of action, the second of which came with a strip and a touchdown recovery by linebacker Steele Chambers.
