Former Buckeyes guard Duane Washington waived by Pacers

Duane Washington is looking for a new home.

The former Buckeyes guard, who clawed and scratched his way to earn a spot on the Indiana Pacers roster last season after going undrafted, was waived by the Pacers on Thursday, according to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski. Washington is being waived for the Pacers to make room to sign all-star center Deandre Ayton.

Washington averaged 9.9 points per game in 48 games for the Pacers last season. He broke out as one of the surprising rookies of the NBA season and carved out a prominent role for a struggling Indiana team.

Now, though, he’ll be looking for a new home, as the Pacers are moving on from their surprising guard.

Buckeyes make final cut for 2023 EDGE Derion Gullette

Four-star Marlin (Marlin, Texas) High EDGE Derion Gullette began narrowing his focus after he released his final three programs, and the Buckeyes made the cut. Gullette is the No. 8 rated EDGE in the country, No. 9 rated prospect in Texas and No. 54 rated prospect nationally according to On3.

The other two schools in Gullette’s final three are Texas and Texas A&M.

A rising senior, Gullette is listed at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds and his frame provides Ohio State with a unique recruiting pitch based on defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ defensive scheme. Gullette has the size and the skill to play on the line of scrimmage or back at linebacker depth. Ohio State is currently without a linebacker commit in its 2023 class, but it does have two defensive linemen: four-star Jason Moore and three-star Will Smith Jr.

Derion Gullette was part of the massive June visit period for the Buckeyes and he was seriously impressed by the experience from Columbus.

ICYMI: Buckeyes set themes for first six home games

As the Buckeyes prepare to cross the 50-days-until-kickoff countdown, they’re rolling out the themes for each of their home games this week.

So far, the September and October themes have been revealed, giving the biggest games the star treatment. Ohio State kicks off with a massive showdown against Notre Dame, a game that doesn’t need any added juice.

Some notable themes for the first six games:

Sept. 24 vs. Wisconsin: Fans have already been instructed to wear black for the huge Big Ten matchup between the Buckeyes and Wisconsin. The biggest remaining question: will the Buckeyes and Badgers meet in primetime? It’s already been announced as one that’ll be televised on ABC. And will the black alternative uniforms make a comeback after a year without them?

Oct. 22 vs. Iowa: The Buckeyes are asking fans to ‘Scarlet Out the ‘Shoe’ for the home Big Ten showdown against Iowa. Ohio State wore all-scarlet uniforms last year in a win over Penn State. Will the Buckeyes replicate that on-field look this season?
