Buckeyes break up camp grind with Hall of Fame practice

Ohio State held a light practice Wednesday, with some of its marquee players receiving a small workload during the grind of camp.

But even with that slower-paced practice, the Buckeyes are in the middle of a grueling stretch in training camp. So Ryan Day took his team to the Pro Football Hall of Fame facility for practice on Thursday.

After practice at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, the Buckeyes had lunch and toured the hall of fame, where they saw the busts of 11 Ohio State legends and plenty more.

“This was a great opportunity for our team to bond,” Day said in a press release. “For our players and staff to have the chance to learn more about the game of football at a place that’s right here in our own state is just an awesome thing.”

Ohio State is in a grinding portion of training camp. A trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame might help them as they begin turning their attention to Minnesota.

Ohio State lands first commit in 2023 class

After a couple weeks of back-and-forth, Ty Lockwood has made his college decision. The 4-star 2023 prospect from Independence (Thompson’s Station, Tenn.) committed to Ohio State on Thursday afternoon.

The Buckeyes became a leading candidate for Lockwood’s commitment this summer. He made a pair of visits with his family to Columbus and left town feeling very good about his relationship with Ohio State’s coaching staff.

Lockwood didn’t go back at the end of June, but did return at the end of July. That visit, for the Buckeyes Bash and BBQ, helped seal the deal in his recruitment.

With Lockwood being the first commitment in the Buckeyes class, they have not created a foundation yet in this cycle. Lockwood, however, is a solid first piece for Ohio State to build around, especially considering his personality and his desire to become a peer recruiter and help build this Buckeyes class.

What made Ohio State the choice? How did he let the coaches know about his decision? Does he intend to be a willing recruiter for the Buckeyes? He talked to Lettermen Row recruiting expert Birm about his decision.

Former Buckeyes team up for podcast about 2014 title team

Want to learn more about the 2014 Ohio State national title team? Evan Spencer and Joshua Perry, two former Buckeyes who were on that team, are supplying the inside look.

Perry and Spencer have teamed up to create a podcast, Glory Days: Dreams and Nightmares, to give an insider look at how that team came together to win a title.

“Producing this series allows us to re-live and share this extraordinary year,” Spencer said in a press release. “The conversations are unfiltered and full of intimate details that revisit the challenges, obstacles and opponents we overcame to capture the inaugural College Football Playoff Championship.”

The 11-part documentary podcast will launch Aug. 25 at 9 a.m. and will chronicle that magic Ohio State season, which ended with wins over Alabama and Oregon.

“Glory Days: Dreams and Nightmares is a destination for anybody who wants to be brought inside one of the most tumultuous and magical college football seasons ever,” Perry said in the release. “We bring fans on a journey of game-breaking moments, adversity, tragedy and perseverance that was powered by a firm belief that teamwork and brotherhood would prevail.”
