Joey Bosa, Urban Meyer relive Ohio State recruitment

Ohio State has had some of the best defensive linemen in college football throughout the last decade. And Joey Bosa might be the best to come through the program in that span.

But he almost didn’t choose the Buckeyes. It was Urban Meyer who helped land Bosa, a four-star player who was destined to be a star. Meyer and Bosa talked about how Bosa became a member of the Ohio State recruiting class in a special video on FOX.

“He’s basically the main reason I looked their way,” Bosa said about Meyer. “I was talking to my high school d-line coach and he was like ‘oh, you have to give Ohio State a look!’ and I was like ‘nah, nah, nah.’ Then I said, ‘you know what, if coach Meyer, if he ends up getting the job, I’ll take a look.’ He ended up getting the job, and they went 12-0 that first year and I watched every game. I just became a huge fan. Once I took a visit, I knew.”

Bosa, of course, helped Meyer and the Buckeyes to a national title, and he eventually became a top-five pick in the draft. And it all started when Urban Meyer was hired at Ohio State.

Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters

Lettermen Live is back for another show to break down more of the fallout from the Ohio State canceled season. The show was a big one.

Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward welcomes former Buckeyes stars Michael Bennett, Zach Boren and Doug Worthington for a discussion about the cancelation of the Big Ten football season, how Ohio State can take the next steps and spring season potential. The panel takes a deep dive into the Big Ten’s problems with handling the cancelation of the season and what could have been done differently.

Make sure not to miss this huge edition of Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters on Olentangy River Road in Columbus.

Shawn Springs relives Ohio State memories

Former Ohio State superstar Shawn Springs joined the Step2TheMic Podcast to talk about his All-American days at Ohio State, his lengthy NFL career and more. Springs had plenty of insight to share and is worth a listen for any Buckeyes fan who remembers watching him — or enjoys hearing about his career.

Jack Sawyer joins Birminology

In order to be better prepared for early-enrollment at Ohio State, Jack Sawyer has opted out of his final year of high school football at Pickerington (Ohio) North High School and now is working with one thing in mind: preparing to play for the Buckeyes as soon as possible.

That could be as soon as January if Ryan Day has his way, but whenever it is, Sawyer — who worked to get his weight up, he’s now 250-pounds — is going to be ready. He’s been preparing for it since he committed to the Buckeyes almost 18 months ago.

Now what Sawyer wants is to finish the 2021 recruiting cycle with the country’s best class. Despite being the first commitment in the class and helping build the rest of the group around him, Sawyer has yet to meet a third of the class because the NCAA has not allowed any recruiting visits in the last six months as a result of Covid-19.

Sawyer has a plan to remedy that though, if he can pull it off. He’s hoping to bring his future teammates to Columbus for a makeshift official visit weekend at his home. How far into the plans for that is he? What’s the message for recruits the Buckeyes are still pursuing?

The 5-star Ohio State commitment shares his thoughts on those things and more in the latest episode of Birminology from Lettermen Row.
