Buckeyes coaches recruiting around country during off week

Ohio State has an off week with no game scheduled Saturday.

But that doesn’t mean the Buckeyes staff is also off. No, Ryan Day and his assistants hit the road this weekend to see some of the top Ohio State targets around the country.

Day is visiting two elite prospects in the state of Iowa this weekend, while running backs coach Tony Alford and wide receivers coach Brian Hartline each are making trips to Georgia to see top Peach State prospects. Legendary defensive line coach Larry Johnson made a trip to Florida, while other assistants are elsewhere recruiting elite high school athletes to the Buckeyes.

Ohio State may have a week away from playing a game this week, but it’s far from a week off for the coaching staff.

Bold Predictions for second half of Buckeyes season

Championship Season is starting early for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes tend to save that designation for November when titles are officially won and the stakes are the highest. But given the neat dividing line on the schedule this year and the clear difference in degree of difficulty between the first half and the second, this time it’s spilling into October.

Clearly Ohio State has already been grinding, working through training camp in August and then a ton of growing pains with a young roster in September. But all that work has built up to this rugged six-game stretch trying to clinch another spot in Indy, and it’s truly time for the reigning Big Ten kings to defend the crown.

Top-10 matchups. Tricky road tests. The Game.

All of that and more awaits the Buckeyes heading into the second half of the season after the off date. As Ohio State gears up for the championship push, Lettermen Row is back with Five Bold Predictions about what’s going to happen over the rest of the Big Ten season.

ICYMI: Zach Boren breaks down Steele Chambers

Ohio State saw a future linebacker for Steele Chambers during the recruiting process. It had a clear positional need during spring camp and an opportunity for Chambers to unleash his hard-hitting, physical approach with a consistent role. And if there was a potential role for him at the next level, all signs were pointing to defense.

But the Buckeyes weren’t going to force the running back to do anything he didn’t want to do. Any position change, particularly one as dramatic as the one proposed to Chambers, would be doomed to fail without complete buy-in.

How has Steele Chambers made such a smooth transition to linebacker for Ohio State? What has been the most impressive part of his work for the Buckeyes so far? Where can Chambers still improve down the stretch? Former Ohio State captain Zach Boren was back to break down the film and answer those questions in the latest episode of BuckIQ.
