Thayer Munford listed as nation’s top returning tackle
Thayer Munford has been one of the most underrated Ohio State offensive linemen during his time as a starter.
He won’t be underrated next season. The left tackle who has played in 46 games during his four-year Ohio State career is the second-ranked offensive lineman returning next season and the top-ranked offensive tackle for college football next season, according to the folks at ProFootball Focus. The only returning offensive lineman ranked ahead of Munford is Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum.
Munford, who has started 34 games for the Buckeyes and appeared in three College Football Playoff games, is among the most experienced offensive linemen in America entering next season. With all that experience, Munford is the top-ranked tackle returning for next season in the country.
With another impressive season next year, he’ll likely come off the board early in the 2022 NFL draft.
Buckeyes linebacker commits remained locked in
Ohio State has plenty of uncertainty right now, as linebackers coach Al Washington has been linked to the vacant Tennessee defensive coordinator position. Washington hasn’t made a decision yet, but regardless of his choice for his coaching career, the three linebackers committed to the Buckeyes program are locked in and not going anywhere. They are all three leading the Ohio State class and still recruiting for the Buckeyes.
Lettermen Row’s Birm has more on the three-man linebacker class:
McCullough has shared a similar viewpoint, and Hicks — who has been dubbed Captain Buckeye — going anywhere else would be a major, major upset. The nucleus of the Buckeyes 2022 linebacker haul isn’t expected to change. What could be impacted by Washington if he were to leave is the rest of the class, because a new linebackers coach would be tasked with establishing a connection not only with the three verbals but also standouts like Jalon Walker, Shawn Murphy, Jihaad Campbell and Justin Medlock. Washington leaving for Tennessee could also really dampen the pursuit of a transfer option like Henry To’o To’o as well.
