Buckeyes name players of game from road win at Rutgers
Ohio State is beginning to return to standard Ohio State procedure. The Buckeyes destroyed Rutgers behind a brilliant performance from quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Stroud, who didn’t play last week due to a shoulder injury, announced his return with a 330-yard, five-touchdown game to lift the Buckeyes to a 52-13 blowout win over the Scarlet Knights. For his performance, Stroud was named the Offensive Player of the Game by the football program.
He’s joined by Ronnie Hickman, who earned Defensive Player of the Game honors for his 12-tackle effort on defense. Hickman has had double-digit tackles in three of the fist five games of the season.
And Demario McCall and Cade Kacherski were named Special Teams Players of the Game.
But Stroud stole the show for the Buckeyes. And he was honored for his effort.
Ohio State slides back into top 10 following blowout win
Ohio State went on the road and dominated an inferior conference opponent — just as the Buckeyes are supposed to do.
Ryan Day and the Buckeyes now have two Big Ten road wins down, and they’ve shown plenty of signs of growth in the month between the first and the latest.
Poll voters agree, moving Ohio State up four spots to No. 7 in the freshly-released AP Poll, which came out Sunday afternoon.
Alabama retained the top spot after an impressive win. The Crimson Tide are followed by Georgia, Iowa, Penn State and Cincinnati to round out the top five.
Buckeyes heavily favored over Maryland
Ohio State dismantled Akron. Then the Buckeyes dismantled Rutgers. Back-to-back impressive, blowout performances have the squad once again opening as a heavy betting favorite in its next game.
Ohio State opened as a 21-point betting favorite on Sunday for its next Big Ten matchup against Maryland, per the Vegas Insider Consensus. The point-total opened at 69.5 points.
The Buckeyes have covered the spread in each of their last two games. First came a 59-7 win over Akron in which they covered a closing line of -48.5 points. Then came Saturday’s big win over Rutgers, 52-13, in which Ohio State was a 15-point favorite.
Now the Buckeyes welcome in a familiar opponent. It’s one that they have handled easily in two of the past three matchups.
