NFL rosters reveal Buckeyes dominance at next level

Ohio State dominates in the Big Ten and around most of the country — and that doesn’t just extend to college football.

No, the Buckeyes are all over the NFL, too, and that was evident Tuesday as the 32 teams faced tough decisions on who to keep — and who to cut. A total of 49 former Ohio State stars made NFL opening-day 53-man rosters, an absurd number for one college program. Another 13 former Ohio State players were cut Tuesday.

Only seven NFL teams will open the regular season without a former Buckeyes player on roster, another sign of the dominance Ohio State has been able to show in college football and carried over into the NFL.

The Big Ten’s best program just continues to prove itself — even at the next level.

New episode of Talking Stuff

Virtually every Ohio State-caliber quarterback in the 2022 class is already committed, but the race is now on, so to speak, to begin a push for one of those players – rising star Drew Allar.

The Medina (Ohio) prospect, who is the No. 1 quarterback in the On3 rankings, was this close to earning a Buckeyes offer last fall before Ewers flipped from Texas to Ohio State. The quarterback timeline needs to be reset at Ohio State. On paper, Allar appears to be the perfect prospect to do just that.

The Buckeyes will be making a call to Allar in the near future. Will he want to listen? Will the Ohio State track record of quarterback development under Day be enough of a deal maker to sway Allar out of his Penn State commitment?

If it’s not enough for Allar, where will the Buckeyes efforts turn to in the 2023 class?

Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham, Zack Carpenter and Spencer Holbrook are discussing those topics – and hitting you with a fast and furious version of In or Out? – in the latest episode of Talking Stuff, the recruiting podcast from Lettermen Row.

Talking Stuff is presented by the fine folks at Byers Auto, the best place to buy a new or used car in Central Ohio.

ICYMI: Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters

The wait is over: Ohio State has a game this week. The Buckeyes will head to Minnesota for a season-opening Big Ten night game Thursday.

The Buckeyes will begin their quest for a fifth straight conference title and third straight College Football Playoff appearance with an 8 p.m. ET kickoff from Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

And Lettermen Live is back at Roosters for one of its biggest shows of the year to preview every angle of it.

The all-star crew is led by Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward and features former Buckeyes linebacker Bobby Carpenter, former Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick, Nicole Cox from Roosters and Lettermen Row director of recruiting Jeremy Birmingham. They made sure to dive into the upcoming Buckeyes road trip and how it can set the tone for another run at a national title.

How will C.J. Stroud look in his first game as Ohio State starter? What should be expected from the Buckeyes offense against a solid Minnesota run defense? How will captain Thayer Munford, who has been cleared for the game after battling a minor injury, and others fare in their new roles?

Find out in the latest Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters.
