Good morning, Ohio State fans, and welcome to the Scarlet Sunrise. Football will always be our focus, but every day we’ll cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.

J.T. Tuimoloau officially listed on Ohio State roster

J.T. Tuimoloau took his time in the recruiting process before picking Ohio State on July 4.

He is now officially with the football program. Tuimoloau is on the athletic department website and listed on the roster now. The highest-rated defensive commitment in Ohio State history, Tuimoloau can make an impact for the Buckeyes immediately on the defensive line. A combo player in the trenches, he will play defensive end for Larry Johnson and the Buckeyes.

Tuimoloau now joins a defensive line group that includes Tyreke Smith, Zach Harrison, Jack Sawyer and other elite defensive linemen in the Rushmen room.

And after a long recruiting process came to an end earlier this month, Tuimoloau is officially a member of the Ohio State football roster.

ICYMI: Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters

The Ohio State secondary has the talent to erase painful memories from January’s national title game. Matt Barnes and Kerry Coombs are tasked with piloting the turnaround. As part of Defensive Backs Week at Lettermen Row, the crew is back at Roosters to break down the depth of the unit and plenty more.

Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward is joined by Lettermen Row Director of Recruiting Jeremy Birmingham, former Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick and former Ohio State linebacker Bobby Carpenter to talk about the Buckeyes secondary and more from the world of Buckeyes athletics.

The Buckeyes finished last season No. 122 in the nation in pass defense. Changes could soon be coming to the Ohio State secondary, too. Josh Proctor could be taking a prominent role anchoring the Ohio State backline while Lathan Ransom tries to earn a role as a cover safety.

The crew broke down the latest coach rankings from ProFootball Focus, which left Ryan Day off the list of the top 20 coaches in college football, when he certainly belongs in that conversation of top five coaches in the sport.

As always, Lettermen Live is hosted by Roosters on Olentangy River Road in Columbus.

Can Cameron Martinez be Buckeyes defensive X-factor?

Cameron Martinez is a dynamic athlete who played quarterback in high school. Now in the secondary, he has a chance to emerge as a versatile weapon for the Buckeyes defense.

Can he take the next step and develop into a playmaker? Lettermen Row has more:

Martinez had the chance to take those reps, both at safety and at cornerback. Where will he play this fall? It remains to be seen. But he might be a utility player who can play wherever needed by Coombs and secondary coach Matt Barnes. Ohio State was lacking depth in the backend last season. With Martinez now a year older and with more experience, he can alleviate some of those depth issues at both cornerback and safety.

He gives Ohio State options on the field, and he is proving he can match production — such as two interceptions in a single spring practice in April — with an off-field work ethic, causing him to draw plenty of praise inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
