Buckeyes center Luke Wypler added to Rimington Trophy watchlist

Luke Wypler wasn’t slated to be the starting center at Ohio State in the offseason.

Now he’s proving to be one of the best centers in the country. Wypler, just six starts into his career, was added to the Rimington Trophy watchlist on Thursday morning.

Wypler was one of four centers added to the list, and he joins five others from the Big Ten in consideration for the honor.

Due to his high ProFootball Focus college grades from his center spot and his overall performance on the field, Wypler is making a case to be among the best at his position in America halfway through the year.

Wypler went from not knowing he was the starting center to Rimington watchlist quickly — and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

ICYMI: Ohio State will host Penn State in primetime next week

Ohio State has been heading toward a showdown with Penn State for supremacy at the top of the Big Ten East standings for several weeks.

And now that big-time matchup will have a national primetime spotlight.

The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions will square off with a 7:30 p.m. kick off on Oct. 30 from The Horseshoe, and the game will be broadcast on ABC.

If Ohio State and Penn State take care of business this weekend, it will likely be a matchup between teams ranked in the top eight when the Nittany Lions come to town. The Buckeyes have risen to No. 5 in the latest AP poll, which is their highest ranking since losing to Oregon in Week Two, and Penn State is currently ranked No. 7.

Buckeyes get hot on recruiting trail, land two commitments this week

Ohio State has new-found momentum on the recruiting trail.

After a couple months without a commitment in the 2022 recruiting class, the Buckeyes landed two commitments in two days earlier this week.

Four-star Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Hollywood, Fla.) EDGE Kenyatta Jackson committed to the Buckeyes on Tuesday, giving Larry Johnson his first defensive line pledge of the cycle.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Buckeyes earned a verbal pledge from three-star, former Iowa State verbal Avery Henry, who was offered just days before his commitment.

The addition of Jackson and Henry this week bumps the Buckeyes back in front of Georgia as the No. 4-ranked group in the country. It will be a busy two months ahead for Ohio State, and another top-five recruiting finish is absolutely in sight.

Lettermen Row‘s Jeremy Birmingham and Zack Carpenter are breaking down the commitments and what they means for Ohio State, the Big Ten and the national recruiting landscape. Check out those stories below.
