Ryan Day named to Dodd Trophy preseason watch list
Ryan Day has made two College Football Playoff appearances in two seasons at Ohio State. He hasn’t lost a regular season game in his head coaching career.
Now he’s already among the best coaches in the country entering this season. Day was named one of the 17 coaches on the Dodd Trophy preseason watch list Tuesday as preseason watch lists continue to trickle out.
One of five Big Ten coaches on the preseason watch list, Day leads the Buckeyes into the season as a heavy Big Ten favorite. Ohio State is aiming for its fifth-straight conference crown this fall.
And Day is aiming for his first national coaching award. He was listed as one of the coaches to watch entering this season on Tuesday.
New Tim May Podcast
The Tim May Podcast is back for another episode as Ohio State makes its way through the tail-end of the offseason.
Lettermen Row’s Tim May has a huge edition of the show, this time diving into athlete’s mental health, and the idea that Ohio State is on the cutting edge of this pressing issue for college athletes.
Tim talks to Dr. Chelsi Day, the sports psychologist for the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Day works exclusively with Buckeyes athletes to deal with their mental health and make sure they have the tools and resources they need as student-athletes.
Tim also made sure to ask Buckeyes linebacker Teradja Mitchell and head coach Ryan Day what they believe about athlete’s mental health back in the spring, and those answers were included in this edition of the podcast, making it a must-listen for fans hoping to further understand the issues they deal with.
How do the Buckeyes help their athletes? What resources are available? Why is this such a large issue in college athletics right now?
Talking Stuff: The Ohio State Recruiting Show
The Buckeyes have been privy to one of the most successful recruiting runs in program history and each win leads to questions of: What’s next?
Those questions get amplified along the offensive line. It’s a pivotal position for Ohio State in the Class of 2022, especially at tackle. There are two commitments now for Greg Studrawa and Ryan Day after adding George Fitzpatrick on Friday. Still there are real concerns from the outside about whether or not the Buckeyes are addressing a big need.
How did the commitment of Fitzpatrick impact that pursuit? That’s one thing that will be worth watching in a major way from now until signing day.
Another thing worth watching? For Ohio State, that is always the defensive backfield. Kerry Coombs has five commitments locked in, but uncertainty abounds as other schools work hard to sway Jaheim Singletary, Ryan Turner, Jyaire Brown and Terrance Brooks. How much should the Buckeyes worry about that? How can Ohio State make sure that the efforts to land Xavier Nwankpa and Zion Branch don’t get deterred?
Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham and Spencer Holbrook are discussing those topics and more in the latest episode of Talking Stuff, the recruiting podcast from Lettermen Row.
