Former Buckeyes tight end Rashod Berry gets another NFL shot

Rashod Berry proved himself as a versatile player who can play on both sides of the ball during his time at Ohio State.

He is hoping to show the NFL he can do the same. Berry, a former tight end and defensive lineman for the Buckeyes, signed with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday morning. He’ll play outside linebacker for a Lions roster hoping to find talent amid a rebuild.

Berry, who most notably caught a touchdown pass in the 2019 Rose Bowl for Ohio State, was with the Patriots last season before being waived on Sunday.

The Lions may see Berry as a player who can make an impact and compete for a roster spot. He was signed by Detroit Wednesday, and he has plenty of time to prove himself before the season starts.

Is Kyle McCord pulling away as second-string quarterback?

Ohio State coach Ryan Day made clear that C.J. Stroud has created separation in the battle to be the Buckeyes starting quarterback this fall.

So the fight for the backup job now takes center stage. But there appears to be some answers in that battle, as well. Is Kyle McCord becoming the second-string signal-caller? Lettermen Row’s Austin Ward has more:

There doesn’t appear to be any lingering uncertainty at the top of the quarterback depth chart. It doesn’t seem like there is all that much left to determine in the second spot, either.

Ohio State hasn’t solidified anything yet when it comes to an official pecking order. But it’s difficult to imagine that Kyle McCord won’t claim the backup job whenever the Buckeyes decide to shift out of training-camp mode and start focusing on getting game ready — which Day indicated could be as early as Friday.

Major Buckeyes target named No. 1 prospect in 2024 class

Ohio State made a major first impression on Jadyn Davis, a 2024 quarterback from South Carolina, when he visited in June.

Davis left Columbus that day with a Buckeyes offer, and he has since added a new accolade. Lettermen Row’s Birm has more about Davis and his new national achievement. Part of it is here:

The Catawba Ridge (Fort Mill, S.C.) quarterback was named the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Class of 2024 on Wednesday by 247Sports.com, bringing his talents squarely into frame just days ahead of his sophomore season with the Copperheads.

The honor won’t distract Davis from his priorities, though. This is one step on the road he’s plotted for himself since first emerging as a national recruiting talent before ever throwing a pass in high school. He’s been compared to Justin Fields, a Georgia native like Davis, and now he’ll keep company with Trevor Lawrence, Quinn Ewers and other rare-air type of passers.
