Top 2023 tight end includes Buckeyes in final four
Ohio State has offered nine tight ends in the class of 2023. One of the Buckeyes top targets at the position has trimmed his list.
And Ohio State made the cut. Independence (Thompson’s Station, Tenn.) High School four-star tight end Ty Lockwood trimmed his list to four. Ohio State made the cut along with Florida State, Penn State and South Carolina.
Lockwood visited Ohio State last week and is remaining high on the Buckeyes priority list.
“Coach Wilson has done such a great job recruiting me, for a long time,†Lockwood told Lettermen Row about the visit. “Me and him have built a great relationship. and Coach [Ryan] Day is a coach that I want to play for. He’s a good coach and an even better person. Everything they do has a competitive feel to it but they’re always having fun.â€
Wilson, Day and the Buckeyes did enough to keep Ohio State alive in the recruitment of Ty Lockwood. He included the Buckeyes in his final four schools.
Five-star cornerback Jaheim Singletary decommits from Ohio State
For the second time in a week, Ohio State suffered a decommitment in its 2022 recruiting class: Jaheim Singletary reopened his recruitment Sunday evening.
When the 5-star cornerback from Jacksonville (Fla.) Robert E. Lee High School committed to the Buckeyes in January, it was assumed holding onto his verbal all the way through signing day would be a challenge. Multiple visits to Miami — and a trip to Georgia this summer — was a clear warning sign for Ohio State. The most recent visit with the Hurricanes happened over the July 29 weekend and culminated on Sunday morning. That’s when Singletary provided a warning sign of his own.
“Announcement coming soon,â€Â Singletary tweeted. “Maybe today.â€
That announcement was bad news for the Buckeyes, and Singletary officially reopened his recruitment Sunday evening.
Ohio State has three cornerbacks still committed in the Class of 2022 including On3Sports.com 5-star Terrance Brooks. Longtime verbal Jyaire Brown and Florida cornerback Ryan Turner are also future cornerbacks for Kerry Coombs. The departure of Jaheim Singletar means Ohio State could soon lose its grip on the nation’s top recruiting class in the class of 2022.
Ohio State enters season chasing down Alabama
Ohio State spent last season chasing down Clemson, and the Buckeyes beat the Tigers when they finally met in January. Then a week later, the Buckeyes lost to Alabama in the national title game.
So this offseason, the Buckeyes have spent time making sure it’s known: they are chasing down the Crimson Tide. Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham has more:
The goal of getting back to — and beating — Clemson, was a unifying and edifying objective for Ohio State.
Playing Alabama a week later with a makeshift roster and no chance to practice to prepare to face an historically-loaded roster with a fully-functioning depth chart wasn’t the be-all, end-all.
That, however, was last year. This season, with the Clemson dragon at least temporarily slain, Alabama becomes the primary villain. It has to.
