Whether or not there are there ‘must get’ prospects in recruiting is up for debate but there’s no doubt that some recruits are, for whatever reason, more important for Ohio State in a specific recruiting cycle. For the Buckeyes and the Class of 2022, those players are becoming clear. Who’s on The List? Today’s featured player is Toriano Pride, a top target of the Buckeyes from talent-rich St. Louis.
The first weekend in June is going to be a big one for Ohio State. That weekend will bring full-scale recruiting back to Columbus, and with it a number of the Buckeyes top recruiting targets in the Class of 2022.
One of them will be Toriano Pride, a 4-star cornerback from Lutheran North High School in St. Louis. He’s the latest member of the The List from Lettermen Row.
The country’s No. 14-ranked corner, Pride doesn’t have the big-time national ranking that his offer sheet would indicate. That doesn’t mean he’s not a true, must-get priority recruit for Ohio State in this recruiting cycle, because he definitely is. He’s an aggressive, confident defensive back who plays with a “dog-like” mentality according to his coach, Carl Reed.

With offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and a who’s who of elite college programs, it’s not a surprise to see Pride on The List. He’s a sure tackler in space, he has quick feet that facilitate an on-a-dime hip turn in coverage and length to defend passes on the perimeter or in jump ball situations.
If he was two inches taller, Pride would be a top-five prospect at cornerback. Don’t let those two inches confuse things: This is a kid who can flat out play.
His experience at wide receiver helps at corner, too. A two-time state champion, Pride is going to make a college decision from among the country’s best schools. But the fact that this recruitment appears to be heading toward an Ohio State and Clemson battle makes winning it that much more important for the Buckeyes.
The official visit to Ohio State is scheduled for June. Pride has been to Columbus multiple times, and he’s developed a good relationship with the Buckeyes staff. Ohio State has two cornerbacks committed, but as Jyaire Brown continues to flirt with Notre Dame and others, landing a player like Toriano Pride becomes a necessity in the 2022 class. His attitude and athleticism make him a perfect fit for the Ohio State secondary.
That’s why he’s on The List from Lettermen Row. Jeremy Birmingham and Spencer Holbrook break down his recruitment and why he’s so important for Ryan Day and Ohio State.
