COLUMBUS — Ohio State will host future five-star prospect Tyler Atkinson for the first time on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound EDGE prospect from Lawrenceville (Ga.) is heading to Columbus on June 1 to work out in the first Buckeyes one-day recruiting camp of the summer. It’s also the first of what will be many college visits for Atkinson this summer. By the time it’s over he’ll be a veteran on the college visit tour circuit.

And then he can start high school.

Tyler Atkinson is a 2026 football prospect — so he’ll be a freshman next season — and has offers from Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and Penn State among the almost 20 offers he’s already gathered. Ohio State is on that list after the Buckeyes offered just about three weeks ago.

There was no delay in offering the soon-to-be-freshman and he’s returned that favor by wasting no time setting up his first trip to Ohio State.

“I am excited to visit,” Tyler Atkinson told Lettermen Row. “This visit will just be me and my dad.”

What is the next defensive superstar from Georgia powerhouse Grayson High School looking forward to seeing and learning about the Buckeyes?

“Everything,” he said. “I”m excited to be competing and learning at camp plus the visit, seeing the Ohio State campus.

“I am just excited to see everything. I want to meet [defensive line] Coach [Larry] Johnson and [Ryan] Day in person and get with the other coaches too. They believe in me and felt it was important to offer me now, as soon as possible, so getting there is important to me.”

It was Buckeyes cornerbacks coach Tim Walton that offered Atkinson in early May. He recruits around Georgia for Ohio State. As stated, Atkinson is eager to get to campus and work with Larry Johnson. The Buckeyes defensive line legacy is well-known, even to such a young prospect. That’s one of the reasons the offer from Ohio State meant so much even with more than a dozen opportunities before it.

“[An Ohio State offer] means a whole lot,” Tyler Atkinson shared. “Just knowing a top team like Ohio State believes in me now is a blessing. They know I will always keep working and learning. I’m a big fan of Chase Young and Coach Johnson.”

Atkinson will have four years of high school to play before he needs to worry about a college decision. Still, as the recruiting calendar speeds up, it’s never too early to learn what schools will be real contenders down the road.

On Wednesday, Ohio State will get its first chance to leave a mark on the 2026 prospect.
