OU captains named for Auburn: Kani Walker, Peyton Bowen, Kip Lewis, Brenen Thompson, Luke Elzinga
It’s a gut-check week for OU football, so it’s imperative to have the right leadership to pace the Sooners this week.
An interesting set of five for OU. Captains Kani Walker, Peyton Bowen, Kip Lewis, Brenen Thompson and Luke Elzinga this week.
The Sooners need to bounce back in a huge way after the disappointing 25-15 loss to visiting Tennessee last weekend. Disappointing, and at many times, downright frustrating.
You could hear it in the voice of head coach Brent Venables. OU is looking for a spark, a big-time change to get this team playing the way it needs to the rest of the way.
Elzinga, strangely enough, has become one of the most valuable members of the team this season. You don’t want your punter to get in a lot of work. But if they do, you want them to do what Elzinga has done in the first four weeks.
Thompson is one of the few receivers to stay healthy so far this season. Or at least, relatively healthy. He hasn’t been able to stretch the defense the way a lot of people assumed. However, he has been willing to cross the middle and try to make those competitive grabs.

Walker, Bowen and Lewis have been anchors of the defense. Obviously, right now, the OU defense is the clear strength of the team.
The Auburn offense has been struggling. As much or maybe even more than how the OU offense has been in recent weeks.
It’s imperative, clearly, that OU show it can bounce back. Even though it’s not easy to win at Auburn, it has already been done twice this season.
The Sooners cannot begin SEC play 0-2, with No. 1-ranked Texas looming in two weeks. The captains have a job to do this week. Get it done.
