Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer (10) waves to Oklahoma fans after the Sooners defeated Tennessee 33-27 in Neyland Stadium in Knoxville on Nov. 1, 2025.

OU is ranked at No. 11 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, which were released on Tuesday.

The Sooners moved up one spot from last week, thanks to Texas Tech beating BYU over the weekend. At No. 11, that means Oklahoma would be the first team out of the 12-team playoff due to the ACC champion and the highest-ranked G5 team getting in.

That said, OU controls its own destiny to the playoff. If the Sooners can win out, they will get into the playoff at 10-2.

“We have a belief and a vision of what we want to do,” quarterback John Mateer said on Monday. “We’re not just coming out here wasting any days and just going through the motions. We know what we’re going up against. It’s fun. It’s SEC football. It’s the hardest, but it’s still 11 on 11 each week, so we enjoy it, we embrace it. We don’t hide from it.”

Oklahoma boasts an impressive resume, with ranked wins over Michigan and Tennessee. It also has two quality losses, losing to two top 10 teams in Texas and Ole Miss.

“A little bit, but it’s not the main focus,” Mateer said. “The main focus is getting better every day, like it’s been all year. We all know. We have a chance to determine our own destiny and keep it right in front of us. So that’s our goal.”
