Bracket Watch: Ole Miss is now knocking on the door for a Top 8 National Seed
The goalposts cannot be moved any further back as Ole Miss has secured its place among the 16 National Seeds that will host a Regional next weekend to start the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
But suddenly the Rebels want, and could, get more on Sunday. A win over Vanderbilt in the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament Championship game could move them inside the Top 8 National Seeds and the chance to host both a Regional and Super Regional.
Though several things will have to go Ole Miss’ way on Sunday, starting with winning its first SEC Tournament championship in seven years.
Sunday’s latest Field of 64 projections provide a good start for the Rebels, though, with both D1Baseball and Baseball America putting them just on the outside of the Top 8.
After moving Ole Miss back into a host seed on Saturday D1Baseball has it as a No. 10 National Seed in Sunday’s projections. TCU (2 Seed), East Tennessee State (3 Seed) and Fresno State (4 Seed) round out the Oxford Regional, which is paired with the Auburn Regional and the No. 7 National Seed Tigers.

Baseball America also bumped the Rebels up after their 2-0 win over LSU in Saturday’s semifinal game. Entering the day as the projected No. 16 National Seed Ole Miss is now the No. 11 National Seed in Sunday’s latest projection. West Virginia (2 Seed), Troy (3 Seed) and Murray State (4 Seed) round out that Regional paired with the Athens Regional and No. 6 National Seed Georgia.
First and foremost the Rebels need to stay hot in Hoover and beat Vanderbilt for the SEC Tournament trophy then get more help. They are sitting at No. 10 in the RPI entering Sunday’s games and have a nation-leading 19 Quad 1 wins with the chance to add one more before Selection Monday.
If North Carolina beats Clemson for the ACC Championship and Southern Mississippi beats Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Championship then things could get interesting for the Rebels move up even further when the official brackets are released on Monday.
The Rebels will learn, officially, they are hosting when the 16 Regional sites are revealed on Sunday at 7 p.m. CT via the NCAA Baseball social media accounts.
