Ole Miss continues to control its own destiny when it comes to the College Football Playoffs. All it has to do is keep winning.

Tuesday brought the second week of the CFP Top 25 rankings and the newest ones have the Rebels at No. 7, dropping down a spot from where it entered the CFP rankings last week.

There was the potential for Ole Miss to get bumped down and not by its own doing. Texas Tech beat BYU in the only CFP top-10 meeting last weekend. The Red Raiders jumped the Rebels to No. 6 and the Cougars dropped down to No. 12 and currently one of the first two teams out.

Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia rounded out the top six ahead of Ole Miss. The Bulldogs host No. 10 Texas and the Crimson Tide host No. 11 Oklahoma in a pair of key Southeastern Conference games with a lot of postseason implications.

The Rebels took care of business last Saturday with a 49-0 win over The Citadel to put a bow on its non-conference schedule. What remains is hosting Florida on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT (ESPN) before getting a week off then playing at Mississippi State for the Egg Bowl on November 28 at 11 a.m. CT.

Win those remaining games and not only will it be the program’s first 11-win regular season but Ole Miss will be one of the 12 teams still alive to play for a national championship starting next month.
