POLL POSITION: Ole Miss stays in Top 25 despite three-game skid

Since knocking off No. 4 Alabama at their place the Ole Miss men’s basketball team has been in a bit of a downward spiral yet on Monday they still remained a top 25 team.
An overtime loss at Mississippi State, a last-second loss at home to Texas A&M and the road loss at Missouri on Saturday has been a tough stretch for the Rebels (15-5, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) to navigate through after a 4-0 start to conference play.
The latest polls reacted accordingly to the losses but Ole Miss did manage to stay in them, falling seven spots to No. 23 in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls. In the AP Poll it was the biggest drop by a team, edging out UConn’s six-spot drop to No. 25.
An opportunity awaits the Rebels on Wednesday, hosting an un-ranked Texas team at 8 p.m. CT before No. 1 Auburn comes to Oxford on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.

Metrics-wise the Rebels NCAA Tournament résumé is still in decent shape, sitting at No. 22 in the latest NET rankings update. A 4-5 Quad 1 record is not stinging as hard given Ole Miss has a SEC schedule.
Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has the Rebels as the 6 Seed in the Midwest Region with his newest projections released on Monday. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi will have a new ‘Bracketology’ update on Tuesday.
The SEC has 10 teams in the AP Top 25 this week and four of them are inside the Top 10. Alabama (No. 4), Florida (No. 5) and Tennessee (No. 9) follow the Tigers.
