Tupelo DB Iverson McCoy commits to Ole Miss over Mississippi State

Tupelo (Miss.) defensive back Iverson McCoy has committed to the Ole Miss Rebels over Mississippi State, he announced on Thursday.

The Rebels got him on campus the weekend before the Bulldogs, which gave State the last shot at McCoy, but he still opted to head to Oxford for his college ball.

The in-state defensive back enjoyed his time on campus. His teammate, Braylen Williams, is already committed to the Rebels and the pair will team up in the secondary in Pete Golding’s defense.

“I like the coaches, the players and the community,” McCoy told On3 after his official visit. “They checked out all my boxes. I like the way they coach and they’re personal.”

Ole Miss’ coaches, including co-defensive coordinator Bryan Brown, hammered home that the Rebels can prepare the 6-0, 175-pound defensive back for the NFL Draft.

“I liked that they are going to be build you up for your junior year so you can have a better chance at getting drafted to the league,” McCoy said.

Ole Miss’ players spent plenty of time with the one-time Mississippi State commit as well and that stood out to him.

“The players are cool and they make sure you’re good and you don’t need for noting and if you need help with drills or something they are willing to help,” he said.

According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, McCoy’s the No. 475 overall prospect and No. 46 cornerback in the nation. Arkansas, Louisville, Kentucky and others have also offered him.
