There is no secret Ole Miss has one of the top returning running backs in the country in rising sophomore Quinshon Judkins. The freshman had a breakout season on his way to earning the Southeastern Conference rushing title on his first try.

But just where does the entire Ole Miss running backs room stack up with the rest in the country? According to On3’s Jesse Simonton it could be one of the top five rooms in the nation for the 2023 season.

Earlier this month Simonton did a post-spring position group ranking series. When it got to the running backs Ole Miss was high on his list.

The Rebels came in at No. 5 on Simonton’s top 10 rankings of running back groups. Michigan, Alabama, Penn State and Ohio State round out the top 5.

Judkins paces the Ole Miss running backs with a returning, and fully healthy Ulysses Bentley and incoming freshman Kedrick Reescano making up what should be the three-deep come the start of fall camp in August.

“Judkins had more than 1,500 yards last season and forced more missed tackles in 2022 than tailback in the country not named Bijan Robinson, per PFF,” Simonton said of Ole Miss. “While the Rebels did lose Zach Evans, former SMU standout Ulysses Bentley is healthy after battling injuries throughout much of his first season at Ole Miss.”

Reescano was one of the crown jewels of Ole Miss’ 2022 December signing class and ranked by On3 as a top 5 running back recruit. He will report in June as he opted to finish out his spring semester of high school before coming to Oxford.

Simonton is also high on the Ole Miss tight end group, ranking it as one of the top two rooms among the position across the country.

With the addition of Caden Prieskorn this spring from Memphis it makes the Ole Miss tight ends room the number two unit in Simonton’s top 10 rankings.

Prieskorn joins Michael Trigg and Kyirin Heath to bolster the Rebels tight end group after the departure of Casey Kelly to the transfer portal and ultimately picking Oregon. Bringing in the second-best receiver Memphis had in the 2022 season makes Ole Miss an appealing group to have strong success this fall.

“Trigg underwhelmed in his first season in Oxford, finishing the year with just 17 catches for 156 yards and three scores after missing the final seven games with an injury,” Simonton said. “Still, he has real NFL talent and is now pushing for playing time with the addition of Prieskorn, who had close to 50 receptions and seven touchdowns for the Tigers last season.

Ole Miss comes in behind Georgia which is headlined by returning John Mackey Award winner Brock Bowers. Rounding out the top 5 is Texas, Florida State and Minnesota.

Another Ole Miss position group that was mentioned but did not earn a ranking was the quarterbacks room.

Headlined by returning starter Jaxson Dart and joined by transfers Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard the Rebels have its deepest quarterback unit in many years. Simonton gave it an honorable mention of sort when doing his quarterback group rankings. Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon and UCLA’s quarterback rooms also earned an honorable mention along with Ole Miss.
