One of the biggest recruiting losses this cycle has officially taken place. And it involves Oregon and a former Oregon head coach.

Martin Luther King (Mich.) quarterback Dante Moore has flipped his long-standing Oregon commitment to UCLA. The 6-foot-2, 210-pouner is a massive loss for the Ducks as the top-ranked commit in the 2023 class.

Chip Kelly was able to pounce on an opening created by Oregon losing Kenny Dillingham to ASU. Dillingham took over the Sun Devils program as its next head coach following Oregon’s loss to Oregon State. Moore had a very strong relationship with Oregon’s OC and new OC Will Stein was not able to re-establish his relationship with Moore late in the cycle.

Moore is the nation’s No. 9 ranked player per the On3 Consensus Rankings. He is the No. 4 ranked quarterback in those same rankings.

With signing day just a few days out, Oregon now finds itself in a precarious position. With no prep quarterback committed and Bo Nix returning, Dan Lanning will need to come up with a secession plan.

There are a number of quality quarterbacks in the transfer portal available. With it being late in the cycle how will the Ducks respond? That’s going to be a massive storyline to watch in the coming weeks.

Moore instantly becomes UCLA’s highest ranked recruit in its class. Which ranked No. 38 nationally prior to his commitment.
