There is always something to watch in today’s college football world. Once the season is over I’d argue the real work takes place. The next 8 weeks might be the busiest period for all college coaches around the country. Key dates in recruiting, announcements for the NFL draft and now the transfer portal getting crazy.

It can be hard to track so let this be a bit of a guide for you moving forward.

Again, I can’t emphasize this enough. Just because the season has finished, the work has really just begun. And I’d argue Dan Lanning might have work for himself this season than last season.

With the help of my amigos, Doug and Corpatty, I’ve put together the bulk of the key dates you need to have tabbed.

Dec. 2: Contact period begins. Recruiting visits on and off campus can begin.

Dec. 5: Transfer portal officially opens. Meaning players officially in the portal can now take visits. This does not apply to players at the FCS level.

Dec. 18: Quiet period begins which eliminates off-campus visits for coaches.

Dec. 19: Dead period begins which eliminates all in-person contact.

Dec. 21: The early signing period opens. Now known as the ‘early signing day.’ The last day to officially sign in this window is Dec. 23.

Jan. 13: Quiet period starts which allows on-campus visits to begin.

Jan. 18: Players must declare for NFL draft by this date. Also this is the last date to put your name in the transfer portal.

Jan. 30: Dead period starts which now closes all in-person contact.

Feb. 1: Late signing period now begins. Previously known as signing day before the early signing day was added.

April 1: This is the last day of the late signing period.
