The gem of Mark Wasikowski’s 2022 Oregon singing class might never set foot in Eugene.

Jackson Cox, a right-handed pitcher who is widely considered one of the top high school arms in the country, was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the second round with the 50th overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft on Sunday.

An 18-year-old pitcher from Toutle Lake, Washington, Cox was tabbed by MLB.com as the No. 58 prospect prior to the draft. During his senior season, his fastball touched 97 miles per hour, and his off-speed pitches have reached 3,000 RPMs, which is very good for young pitchers.

Colorado’s selection of Cox follows an obvious blueprint; the Rockies selected Gonzaga star Gabriel Hughes, a pitcher with a similar makeup to that of Cox, in the first round with the 10th overall pick.

The slot value for the 50th overall pick is $1.54 million.

Major League teams have until August 1 to sign their draft picks.
