With just under one month to go in the regular season, postseason baseball in Eugene is very much a possibility.

The No. 24-ranked Oregon Ducks find themselves in the mix for a Pac-12 title and are also very much in contention to host an NCAA tournament regional, according to one projection.

D1Baseball released its first NCAA tournament field projection for the 2022 season on Wednesday. It includes a prediction of the 64-team field, including which 16 teams will host regionals.

Oregon fans will be happy with where their program showed up.

The Ducks are tabbed as the No. 13 overall seed, which means they would host a regional in Eugene. They are projected to face No. 2-seed UC Santa Barbara, No. 3 Vanderbilt, and No. 4 UNLV.

But their margin for error is thin.

“In terms of other top 16 hosts, Texas, Stanford and Georgia Southern are out this week, while TCU is out as well,” the D1Baeball staff wrote. “Those four teams are replaced by Texas A&M, Louisville, Oregon, and LSU. The Cardinals are up to 16 in the RPI with 12 wins vs. RPI Top 50 and a solid 14-7 mark in the ACC, Oregon is 22 in the RPI but is on thin ice this week.”

Oregon and Oregon State are the only two Pac-12 teams that are currently predicted to host a regional. UCLA, Arizona, and Stanford are all projected as No. 2 seeds for a top-heavy conference that is projected to receive just five tournament bids.

Looming large for Oregon is its upcoming matchup with the Beavers, the No. 2 team in the nation, in Corvallis this weekend. Taking two, or even three games from Oregon State would be a massive resume booster for the Ducks.

The tournament field will officially be announced on selection Monday on May 30 at 9 a.m. PT, with regionals set to begin on June 3.
