Oregon plummets in ESPN FPI rankings following Week 1 loss to Georgia
The Oregon football program’s stock undoubtedly took a hit after the Ducks were dismantled by the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday in Atlanta.
The question now is: how far will Oregon fall after a single loss?
According to ESPN, Saturday’s 49-3 beatdown at the hands of the Bulldogs was quite substantial. The outlet released an updated iteration of its 2022 Football Power Index (FPI) rankings early Sunday, and the Ducks landed at No. 44.
When ESPN released its preseason FPI rankings back in June, the Ducks were tabbed as the No. 23 team. At that time, the FPI gave them a projected record of 8.6 – 4.1. After Saturday’s rankings update, they have a projected record of 6.9 – 5.3.
Their 21-spot plummet is indicative of a performance Saturday that was abysmal on both sides of the ball.
Oregon was held without a touchdown for the first time since 2016. On defense, it surrendered touchdowns on Georgia’s first seven drives of the game.
As a result, the Bulldogs jumped from No. 3 to No. 2 in the FPI rankings, surpassing Ohio State.
The only Pac-12 teams to crack the FPI top-25 were USC (No. 14) and Utah (No. 19).
The entire top-25 is as follows.
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Ohio State Buckeyes

- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Texas Longhorns
