Oregon Wins, But Far More Questions Arise in Flat Performance

After 13 days to reflect, prep, and prepare, fans undoubtedly expected a crisp and clean performance from the Oregon Ducks Friday night against a porous Cal Bears team.

What they got was the complete opposite, even in a 24-17 victory.

Oregon was flat and inefficient on offense; uninspired and outmuscled on defense; and pulled away late due only to the presence of Kayvon Thibodeaux, the only player who can hold his head high when watching the film.

Oregon (5-1, 2-1) now heads to UCLA with far more questions to be answered. The biggest and loudest remains the quarterback situation. If you look only at the stats, Anthony Brown (21-29 for 240 yards one touchdown) did exactly what fans have been clamoring for; but if you watched, it was yet another game filled with missed reads, head-scratching miscues, and unforced turnovers.

Travis Dye (19 carries, 145 yards) was the stalwart in CJ Verdell’s absence, proving once and for all he’s ready to handle the full time load.

Oregon won..but, boy, was it ugly.

More to come from ScoopDuck through the weekend.
