ScoopDuck Predictions: Oregon vs BYU Score

It’s Tuesday which means it’s that time once again. Time for the ScoopDuck team to predict who will win this weekend between Oregon and BYU.

This is easily one of the more intriguing games this weekend in the country. It’s set for a 12:30 kick in a prime TV slot which will have eyeballs on this one.

I’m sure most of you know how this works by now. Below are the score predictions from the ScoopDuck team with an explanation of their score.

Enjoy.

Jarrid Denney: Oregon 31, BYU 24

Oregon showed enough on the offensive side of the ball in Week 2 to convince me that it will find a way to win against a really tough BYU team. Defensively, I’ve still got some concerns about the Ducks. But the offensive line has been really good so far this season and Oregon should have no problem moving the ball on Saturday. The atmosphere at Autzen Stadium should be as good as its been in a long time, and I think that will be enough to carry the Ducks over the line and notch the first major victory of the Dan Lanning era.

Joel Gunderson: Oregon 38, BYU 27

A couple of factors come into play when making this prediction. The first is something that I said immediately after Oregon’s opening game debacle: the offense is GOOD. I don’t care who they played Saturday; dropping 70 — with absolute ease — is proof of that. And what’s most exciting is they did that playing a very vanilla game.

Knowing what they tried to do against Georgia a bit and what coordinator Kenny Dillingham said all offseason, Oregon wants to be even more explosive downfield. Adding that dimension to the dynamic run game, plus their stud tight end room, will make Oregon even more dangerous.

The second factor is layered, but BYU is coming off an emotional, physical win that went into two overtimes, and Oregon also plays their best (in recent years) when the spotlight is on them at Autzen.

BYU is good, probably very good. But I think Oregon is, too; the Georgia stink is too prevalent in the national media’s mind, and they don’t know it yet.

That changes after Saturday when Lanning gets his first statement win.

Travis Rooke-ley: Oregon 38, BYU 24

I expect a great crowd at home Saturday and I think the Ducks will come out early with a lot of energy. I think we can move the ball well against the BYU defense, and our speed has a big advantage on both sides of the ball. The Ducks win comfortably Saturday setting up a huge conference opener on the Palouse.

Corpatty: BYU 35, Oregon 31

I need to preface this score prediction by saying this assumes that BYU WRs Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney both play.  This will give dynamic Cougar QB Jaren Hall the offensive weapons he needs to effectively exploit the Oregon defense.  I expect Oregon to move the ball on offense and think this will be a back and forth game.  I’m not yet sold on Oregon’s defense being able to stop good offenses.  So this game will go a long ways in telling us what kind of team Oregon is going to be this season.  In the end, I think Oregon loses a hard fought game and the Ducks 20-game home winning streak comes to an unfortunate end.

If Nacua and Romney do not play, I would revise my score in favor of Oregon winning the game 31-21.

QB11: Oregon 35, BYU 24

I have the Ducks pulling off their 20th consecutive home non conference win against BYU. Oregons ability to out athlete the BYU defense in space while limiting Jaren Halls effectiveness outside the pocket will be the key. Open field tackling will be once again tested.

Jhop: Oregon 44, BYU 34

Well what a difference a week makes right? Had Oregon played BYU week two, I’m not sure anyone would have picked the Ducks. And even though it was just Eastern Washington, there was enough there to have some optimism for the Ducks.

Now comes a fired up Kalani Sitake who will be looking for revenge after being passed over for the Oregon job. Perhaps that ‘revenge’ might end up costing him. Like Corpatty said, there are two wild cards at receiver with Nacua and Romney missing the last game.

I’ve got Oregon winning simply because they are vastly more talented and I believe Lanning can make another round of improvements to the defense this week.

DuckZone: BYU 37 OREGON 34

I think playing lower competition last week definitely helped with better execution on both sides of the ball for Oregon. Although, The Ducks have yet to prove to me who they are. Yes it looked good against lower level competition, but thats what is expected. That week one performance still hangs in my head until Oregon can show me that they can compete against the top teams in the nation this year.

I think both these teams are evenly matched and home-field advantage will definitely play a big factor in this game. BYU went 5-0 against the Pac 12 last year , returns 86% of their roster and is coming off a huge emotional win. I think this will be a back-and-forth game throughout 60 minutes and will go to overtime. I think the experience on the field and on the sideline will get the Cougars over the hump and escape with a close victory in Autzen Stadium.
