ScoopDuck Predictions: Oregon vs Stony Brook

It’s Wednesday so it’s time to offer up our predictions for the week. Last week we took a hit with everyone picking Ohio State to beat Oregon. In fairness, most national and local media picked the Buckeyes to win. And most fans expected that outcome as well.

But the Ducks got it done in one of the biggest wins in program history.

And now it’s on to Stony Brook in the comfy confines of Autzen stadium. There is not much doubt about what we all think the outcome will be this week. But we’ll offer our predictions anyways.

And here they are.

Joel Gunderson: Oregon 42, Stony Brook 10

For the simple fact that more players will see the field for Oregon in this game than the previous two combined, an underwhelming final score will be the reality — but in the best way possible. In every sense of the word, this will be a “get well” game, with an eye toward the future.

Did something not work against either Fresno State or Ohio State? They’ll fix it Saturday. Players dinged up? Backup central. For those who love recruiting and young talent, Saturday will be a dream scenario.
Oregon will win big, just not on the scoreboard.

Jacob Archer: Oregon 48, Stony brook 10

After pulling off a tough win in the Shoe, Oregon has a chance to make their final adjustments heading into conference play. No game is ever a guaranteed win, but Oregon should have no problem in this one.

This game will provide them a chance to test out some of their depth pieces after they got hit with a ton of injuries this past weekend. Even though they may be playing some inexperienced players, Oregon should roll come Saturday night.

Jarrid Denney: Oregon 56, Stony Brook 10

It’s been an eventful start to the season for the Ducks. Their win over Fresno State was a bit of a nail-biter, and last Saturday in Columbus was one of the more thrilling wins in program history. This week, Oregon will get a bit of a breather and should have the luxury of emptying the bench in the second half.

Look for the offensive line to absolutely manhandle an undersized Stony Brook defensive front and pave the way to some big runs. This will be a great chance for the Ducks to get a few of their playmakers firing. Troy Franklin and Dont’e Thornton could be in for big days, and the trio of young, reserve running backs should see plenty of action. The most insightful aspect of this game will be seeing where some of the younger guys are on the depth chart at this point.

Corpatty: Oregon 47, Stony Brook 13

After I nailed last week’s prediction so well, everyone should be waiting with bated breath to see my prediction this week.  They talent disparity is too great in this game for there to be a post-Ohio State letdown.  Oregon takes an early lead and plays it’s reserves most of the second half, cruising to an easy victory before Pac-12 play begins.

Jhop: Oregon 41, Stony Brook 10

Stony Brook might score more points than that. But it won’t be indicative of the game. The only reason I’m not making this a more lopsided victory is I think Mario Cristobal will make an effort to get as many key starters off the field as early as possible. This team is nicked up and some extra rest will be a huge benefit for this team.

The good news is you might get to see more of Ty Thompson, Seven McGee, Byron Cardwell and others in this game. The only downside is they might not be quite as polished as the starters and will keep this one closer in the box score than it will actually be.
