The Oregon offense has been operating at an incredibly high level recently.

Over their past four games, the Ducks have scored at least 40 points and accumulated at least 439 yards of total offense while notching four consecutive wins. It’s been a spectacular display from Kenny Dillingham’s group, and one that has captured the mind of Oregon fans after years of pedestrian, unimaginative offenses under the previous coaching staff.

But the Ducks’ players will be the first to tell you that there’s still work to be done.

“It’s just about growing with the details of our plays,” Oregon quarterback Bo Nix said. “I think we have some really good schemes. When we run it how it’s supposed to be run — to perfection — it’s really hard to stop. Our coaches do a great job of putting us in situations that we’re good at.

“Our next step is just to fine-tune the details and make sure that we’re doing that correctly so that we can have more explosive plays. … I think if we fix the details and have maximum effort, we could become really high-powered.”

Sophomore receiver Troy Franklin delivered a similar response when asked what the offense can do to improve.

“We can always grow,” Franklin said. “Just the little things. Maybe just little penalties, things like that. I would say blocking on the perimeter a little bit better; just adjusting to things on the go.”

Oregon’s win over Stanford last weekend was highlighted by an explosive 80-yard touchdown run from Nix that put the game on ice in the third quarter.

Ducks’ coach Dan Lanning took an opportunity to tease his quarterback after the game on Saturday and made sure to let reporters know that Nix was “sucking wind” when he got back to the sideline.

Nix was asked at what point he knew he was going to score on the run.

“Well, I didn’t know that I was going to score until I crossed the goal line,” Nix said with a laugh. “Just because you never know what’s going to happen; you never know if there’s a penalty or anything like that. Fortunately, I was able to get out in the open field and there was a lot of grass to run in.

“My receivers and tight ends did a good job of blocking down the field. We talk about it all the time: effort without the ball. … Those guys showed it on video. That’s kind of what sprung the 80-yarder.”
