8 things to know about new Penn State commit Anthony Speca

Penn State has added its second verbal commitment in the Class of 2024. Fresh off an unofficial visit to see the Lions in State College, four-star Pittsburgh linebacker Anthony Speca picked head coach James Franklin’s team on Tuesday over multiple other Power 5 options.

Get to know the 6-foot-1, 215-pound junior and the rest of the Lions’ Class of 2024 below.

1. How it started

Pittsburgh was the first school to offer Speca all the way back in April 7, 2021. Penn State waited for a few weeks to move on the linebacker but did so on April 28, 2021. By the start of 2023, Speca had offers from more than 20 Power 5 programs.

2. Who else was involved?

Speca took 28 unofficial visits before making his choice. Seven of those trips were to Penn State, which made the Lions a longtime factor in his recruitment. The linebacker saw Michigan and Notre Dame five times each and Pitt four times. He also visited four other schools, including Ohio State, at least once. The Lions, Wolverines, and Fighting Irish were the top-tier participants in this recruitment, however.
