Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Bo Nickal.

The former champion Penn State wrestler who has now moved on to the mixed martial arts stage of his career knows when his next fight will be.

Per MMA Junkie, Nickal, who is 1-0 as a professional, will be part of Dana White’s Contender Series. He is expected to face Zachary Borrego, the same outlet reported. He’s 3-0 at this stage of his career. A win on White’s show could launch Nickal right into the UFC. The bout is reportedly scheduled for August.

Moving on to basketball, the third summer evaluation period is underway for NCAA coaches. BWI’s Nate Bauer had a full look at where head coach Micah Shrewsberry and his staff will be at here.

But, beyond that, the leader of the Lions was spotted by On3 national analyst Jamie Shaw at the Under Armour Circuit in Atlanta. A top Penn State target was also on hand: Four-star power forward Carey Booth.

“The 6-foot-10 Booth, who is the son of former NBA center Calvin Booth, has taken two official visits Penn State and Marquette,” Shaw writes. “Both Micah Shrewsberry and Shaka Smart were very visible, each with assistants at their side.”

Finally, for this section, head Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson has signed a contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Quote of the day

“I told everyone from the jump, I’m different. I want to get away from Alabama. It’s too hot down here. I need a change of scenery. I’ve always been like that. But my head coach is definitely proud. He thinks it’s a great move for me to go to the Big Ten. We’re all locked in, doing it together. Everyone is excited for me and they can’t wait for me to go up there and show everyone what I can do.”
